Oyster Indoor Bowls Club are proud to announce that member Kay Ferguson is the new “Ladies Champion of Champions, Kent.”
Kay had to travel to neutral venue Ashford for the County Final, to play against Erica White, a quality Kent player who plays out of Swale.
Sue Mates, a national umpire, turned up to mark this very important game.
They both played a tight game in the beginning testing each other out tactically by subtly changing the length of the jack.
Through the middle part of the game the rink changed and with more players in the club it warmed up.
This made for an interesting change with Erica going ahead 11-9. Kay then seemed to go up a gear at this stage and ended up leading 19-14. What ended up being the last end Kay put two bowls within a foot of the Jack, which put the pressure on. Erica’s final bowl was slightly across the head which sealed the win for Kay, 21-14.
The game played in great spirit and was a privilege to watch.
Kay now goes on to the National Finals at the Dolphin Indoor Club, in Poole Dorset.
As you can imagine her father Dave, (and current Men’s Champion), is immensely proud, as are we all.
