Wednesday 15th
County pairs
Tom Attaway and Joe Vandepeer vs Josh Rowe and Nick Holley (Folkestone)
A very high quality match with exceptional draw bowling from all bowlers. Match went down to the final end. Tom and Joe 16-15 up. Nick decided to play minimum length with the mat up and with his first bowl tried to ditch the jack, and failed. The head built up and with Folkestone holding 2 shots for game. Tom had one last bowl and bowled it perfectly, under immense pressure, to win the match 17-15. A great game to watch.
County Mixed Pairs
Paul Causer & Lin Riches vs Isaac Tomkins and Kirsty Potter (Folkestone)
Paul and Lin got off to a great start but the middle part of the game was nip and tuck.
From end 13 Paul and Lin started to dominate the game. Then on the 19th end Lin played 4 outstanding lead bowls and Isaac decided to attack the head, (failing with all four drives), with Paul putting cover bowls to the back just in case. With Paul’s last bowl of the end he drew in another to claim 5 shots and with that there opponents shook hands. A convincing win. 26-11
Thursday 16th
County Men’s Triples
Paul Causer, Adam Lawrence, Ken Weyand vs Joe Vandepeer, Tom Attaway, Dave Ferguson
A unfortunate draw having both teams from Oyster having to play each other, but on the plus side, Oyster have a team going into the next round.
The game was looking like a one sided game with Dave’s team going ahead by a convincing score, leading 9-22. At end 13 Ken’s team found another gear and turned the game around in the second half of the match. Going into the final end Ken’s team managed to get the 3 shots needed to tie the match and force an extra end tie break. Ken’s team managed to come away with the winning shot, winning 22-23. Definitely a game of two halves.
The players would like to thank the supporters who turned out to watch these games.
