On Saturday 15 February, our men played against a difficult team, home and away, from Bromley. With the depth of players they have at Bromley now, it was never going to be an easy task.
The home side of Paul Causer, Dave Ferguson, Ian Honnor and Joe Kelly played on a home rink that wasn’t easy early on, due to the temperature which made it difficult to nail the Jack and get back to centre. Both leads found it difficult and frustrating to start with. Eventually the temperature changed for the better which made for a better, higher quality game, from all players.
The Bromley skip had Vector VS bowls which held a tight line. Playing a positive up and at it game, which he done exceptionally well, at times got their team out of trouble.
Our home team relied on the experience, and eventually settled into their rhythm, but had to settle for a draw. This to be honest was a fair result in a game which was played in the best of spirits from both sides.
The away side of Tom Attaway, Ken Weyand, Charles Bruder and Dex Weyand, started off strong, but the Bromley side got a single wood in there a couple of times in the first five ends to keep the game tight, otherwise Oyster would have been dominating. Oyster pushed on anyway and built better heads getting into a commanding position, massively aided by picking up 7 points on one end, followed by 3 to go 21-4 up. Bromley fought back with a score of 4 points, but Oyster kept them at a steady 10 shots behind, eventually running out 25-14 winners.
Well played everyone!
The men now progress to the finals, which will see both semi-finals, and the final played off at Mote Park, (Maidstone) on Saturday 15th March.
It would be great to see some support for the team from the club. If anyone is interested in going I’m sure people could car share.
