Joe Vanderpeer and Tom Attaway (at home vs Deangate)
The visiting pair got off to a great start on our home green. Being a bit of a shock to Joe and Tom, they struggled to adjust (to a slow home green) and went 0-9 down. Once the club filled up with more people the green warmed and got back to a more normal pace, and the lads started to play some bowls that we are used to seeing them play. They slowly battled their way back and found themselves only 14-15 down going into the last end.
The Deangate lead bowled his first within 10 inches of the Jack, so it was down to Joe to come up with a decent reply with his last bowl. Joe stepped up and his last bowl came in for shot. This meant it was level and could go to a extra end. However, Tom wasn’t settling for an extra end and with his first bowl put the pressure on by drawing even closer, meaning they now held 2 shots and match. Deangate’s Skip played a couple of reaching shots in an attempt to change the head, but this didn’t go in their favour. This left Tom to play tactical cover bowls incase things changed. Fortunately this didn’t happen meaning Joe and Tom won the match! A great battle and an exciting game to watch. The final score was 16-15 to Oyster.
Their county run continues.
Well done lads.
