Today, Oyster Indoor Bowls played our near neighbours from Whitstable Castle Outdoor Bowls Club, for one of our annual friendlies. In a mixture of 8 triples and rinks, it was good to see the club full, with lots of banter and friendliness across both greens.
Inevitably the indoor team got the better of the outdoor team, as we are used to playing on our own carpet (they normally reverse this outcome when we play on grass). Under the leadership of Captain Brian Watson, we won 7 of the 8 rinks with Oyster having a convincing 209 – 78 shots win, with Kathy Brewster, Maurice O’dell and Rob Davis achieving the highest winning rink, by 40 – 4.
We all enjoyed a half time cuppa and biscuits, with drinks and a raffle at the end.
The reporter apologises for the headline, but as today was 14 February, one couldn’t resist. No malice is meant, and I’m sure our visitors, (some of which will be Oyster members as well), will know it is just “tongue in cheek.”
Congratulations to all involved (including Emma and her team).
