This report sent to the local Whitstable Gazette….
Sian Honnor of Oyster Indoor Bowls Club, Whitstable, has been representing Team England at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Sian was given the honour of being England’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony.
With her bowls partner, Amy Pharaoh, they have been playing in the Women’s Pairs against Commonwealth teams from Malta, Tonga, South Africa, Namibia and India. After a tense week, with many matches going to a tie-break, they won through to the semi finals on Monday evening, where they faced a strong pairing from Wales. Yet another tie-break match, and a final bowl win!
Amy & Sian then played in the Gold Medal match on Tuesday morning, against a Malaysia team, who had yet to lose a match in this tournament.
The England pair won the first set 5-4.
The second set was just as close, with the lead changing sides often, and with both sides scoring 3 shots each in the final 2 ends, the set finished tied at 5-5, meaning England won the Gold Medal 1.5 points to 0.5.
Many congratulations Sian & Amy 🥇🥇
